Exmouth is a lovely little seaside town, we’re taking a much needed break from the red dirt, flies and heat to relax here and take in the sights.. And there are plenty here to enjoy! This is a wildlife haven, with a walk along the beach today finding us watching Black Tip Reef Sharks and turtles patrolling just off shore, and from the lookout near the light house we were blessed with a pod of Humpback Whales frolicking in the sea on their way South.. What an incredible day!

The West Australian coast is vast. There is a lot of KM’s between places out here.. We drove over 500km today to get from 40 Mile Beach to Exmouth, which could be close to a record for our trip so far!

Free camping on the agenda for this week, we’ve passed through Karratha, stocked up and given the Prado a little TLC, and we have set up camp at Cleaverville Beach for a couple of days. This is a lovely beachside camp spot overlooking a stretch of beach with some impressive water wildlife.. Our fishing attempts have been thwarted by turtles stealing our bait.. No fish for dinner tonight! LOL

Another day, another magnificent gorge.. This time the famous Hamersley Gorge, with spectacular ancient rock formations and a wonderful swim! This area has definitely lived up to its reputation as a place of natural wonders..

Started today's adventure with some rock climbing in Weano Gorge, walking down to Handrail Pool and navigating our way down into the swimming hole. After lunch we took on the even more challenging Hancock Gorge, which required not only wading through waist deep water, clinging precariously to slippery and uneven rock walls, and scampering over a running creek between two gorge walls, but then you had to be brave enough to jump into Kermit’s Pool at the end.. Well worth the effort though!

We started our tour of Karijini National Park today with a hike through Dales Gorge, starting with a swim at Circular Pools and traversing through the magnificent ancient environment for another swim at Fortesque Falls. There are more gorges to see in this National Park, but this one has toppled El Questro Gorge off my ‘Favourite Gorge of all time’ List! Stunning..

The next few days will find us in Karijini National Park, in the heart of the Pilbara. We’re camping at Dales Campground while we explore all this beautiful place has to offer. It’s a long drive to everywhere out here, so we’re stocked up on water, food, fuel and charged batteries to capture some of the world renowned beauty on offer!

So today was a visit to Port Hedland, to stop for supplies and see the big ships! From here we drove to Indee Station for the night, a fantastic Station Stay camp with a very friendly welcome! What a treat.

A little further south again today, this time stopping in at Eighty Mile Beach, another beautiful stretch of beach, and more magnificent sunsets.. This is hard to get used to.. NOT!
Tuesday 4th October 2016
Finally got the fishing line wet today, after a long hiatus.. But unfortunately we picked a day the fish weren’t hungry! Oh well, better luck next time.
Monday 3rd October 2016
We’ve moved further south down the Western Australian coast finally.. Stopping in for a few days at Barn Hill Homestead, which is a lovely little camp spot on a sensational stretch of beach, with beautiful sunsets and a fascinating collection of shells washed up amongst the rock pools!

Checking out Cape Leveque today, with a swim at the absolutely stunning Cape Leveque Beach (a definite contender for Best Beach in Australia!). Plus Beagle Bay to see the famous Shell Church, which was a must see..
