Into Fremantle today (or Freo as the locals would say!). Such a lovely town with some impressive history, and original architecture maintained in wonderful condition. We did a tour at the famous Fremantle Prison which was fascinating, and then some fish and chips at the marina! Yum!

It’s Amanda's birthday! Yay!!

To celebrate, we jumped on the ferry to ROTTNEST ISLAND! What a way to spend your birthday!! We hired bikes and rode all around the island (approx 22km) – which is absolutely beautiful. This place is a national treasure! The quokkas were friendly, the water was crystal clear and is perfect for a refreshing swim and snorkeling, the seals were, well.. pretty lazy.. but still awesome! And the scenery is just incredible. We needed more than one day here, next time we’ll be staying on the island and doing a slow explore, this is a place that deserves more time!!

My birthday dinner tonight was courtesy of the Street Food Market in Forrest Place.. YUM! They had everything you could imagine.. We tried Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, plus some Columbian lemonade.. Such a great atmosphere in town tonight as well, what a treat!

Public transport is pretty impressive here in Perth, we’re a few train stops out of the centre of town, so it is no hassle to train it in for the day! We began our exploration of the city with a walk through the Mall, the new City Library, and the old St Georges Cathedral.. Then lunch at Kings Park Botanical Gardens.. What a view! Perth is a lovely clean city with a great atmosphere, thoroughly impressed so far!

Sunday 13th November 2016

Back with the dolphins, there are five wild dolphins that come in for a fishy treat here at Monkey Mia: Shock, Surprise, Kiya, Puck and Piccolo.. They are only fed a small amount of fish, and they only get fed if they choose to come into shore for a visit.. The research being done on these dolphins is world class, and has spanned 40 years. The staff are so knowledgeable and full of passion for their work, it is great to be able to participate, not to mention being part of putting the huge grins on visitors who get the chance to come into the water and meet a dolphin face to face! What and experience!

Saturday 12th November 2016

So today found us doing something VERY Special! Volunteering at Monkey Mia with the dolphins! We’ve signed up for a couple of days helping out the Rangers at Monkey Mia, which includes preparing fish food for the dolphins, collecting data on dolphin and turtle activity, and helping many visitors with their once-in-a-lifetime encounter feeding wild dolphins! How exciting!!

Friday 11th November 2016

More National Park exploring today, this time the incredible Francois Peron National Park! What an experience.. The highlight was the walk to Skipjack Point along the coast, from the lookout you can see so much marine life it is hard to believe! We saw dolphins, turtles, sharks, Eagle Rays, Manta Rays, Sting rays.. plus comorants and other lovely bird life, and a coastline that is just magnificent.. What a place!

Taking in more of the sights today, with a drive up to Gnaraloo Bay for some snorkeling, and a stop off to see The Blowholes – which are a pretty impressive natural phenomenon! Such a beautiful and extreme coastline all the way along Western Australia, every place you stop at you are captivated!

Thursday 3rd November 2016

Today was one of my favourite days on our whole trip so far, with a visit to the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum! What a treat.. It turns out Carnarvon has played a large role in the ‘Space Race’, and their museum is a real treat, with heaps of fascinating information, interactive displays, and a chance to dress up and be an astronaut! I think I missed my calling!

We’re in Carnarvon (get the pronunciation correct or no one in Western Australia will know where you are talking about!!) for a week, with plenty to see and do in this area. Today was spent learning about the local history of Carnarvon, checking out the museum and nearly being blown off the OTC Dish (Carnarvon is a WINDY place!)
