Having a sensational time, there is a great bike and walking trail along the coast here at Elliott Heads, winding around to Coral Cove and Bargara, plus some awesome snorkeling and diving. The tidal estuary is a perfect spot for swimming as well.. and the fish and chips at the local café are pretty nice too 🙂

Matt: Another great catch of fish from the local fish and chip shop...sigh.

Monday 30th May 2016

Today we stopped in at Mon Repos Turtle Centre, and although we’re a little late for the turtle nesting season, this is a great place to check out. The displays are informative, and the walking trails showcase some truly beautiful bushland. You can read more about this important area on our website soon!

Spent today in Bundaberg (or Bundy as the locals say!) This is a great little town, I enjoyed the bustling main street, there is so much to see and do here!

Tuesday 24th May 2016

We’re spending this week in Elliot Heads, a short distance from Bundaberg. We’ll be using this as our base to explore the Fraser Coast, hopefully with some snorkeling, hiking and of course swimming!

Matt: It's been a busy time on the road. We're stayed at no less than 15 places in a month and unfortunately my back has signaled it needs a rest. Time out.

Monday 23rd May 2016

We’re busy getting ready for our visit to Fraser Island next month, which means we made a quick stop in to Rainbow Beach to check things out today. What a brilliant swimming beach and a lovely little seaside town!

Matt has fond memories of Fraser Island from his youth, and I’m pretty excited to be going for the first time. We’ll be leaving the trailer behind and heading over with the trusty swag, camping for a week while we explore this incredible sandy ecosphere. But that’s next week – for now, more swimming please!

Saturday 21st May 2016

I think today was one of my favourite days so far in the five months of this trip!

It was one exciting event after another.. Started with an EARLY morning at Glasshouse Mountains Lookout for some sunrise photography, then a great hike up to the top of Mt Ngungun – a VERY popular hike with sensational views over the whole area (a little steep in some parts – wear good shoes and take your time!).

After lunch on way to Cooroy to set up our next camp, we stopped in at an old favourite – the Big Pineapple! They have markets here every Saturday, so we were able to stock up on some fresh local produce, while getting a selfie with the Big P herself!

Then the day got even better.. This is an unofficial beach and food tour after all.. Noosa! The beach here is just lovely, and our arrival coincided with the annual Food & Wine Festival. We had a fantastic time at the Spanish Food court trying all the local chefs’ specials and wines.. Scallops, prawns, champagne, a lot of chorizo.. YUM!

Phew.. What a day!

Matt: The Big P Herself? How do you know it's gender? Had fun driving past the turnoff to Cooroy no less than 3 times, NOT. I admit it would have easier if we turned off originally where you suggested. Roadworks...sigh.

Friday 20th May 2016

Exploring the aptly named Sunshine Coast today.. Mooloolaba, Caloundra, Maroochydore.. so much to see and do, this area has something for everyone. Tonight we helped ourselves to a beer at the famous Ettamogah Pub, just to top off an awesome day 😉

Thursday 19th May 2016

Pineapples!! We’re in pineapple country!! Huge, sweet smelling, yummy pineapples!!

Can you overdose on pineapple..??

Matt: Don't know about pineapples. But you can overdose on cherries.

Wednesday 18th May 2016

Bike Riding along the Bribie Island foreshore today, this island has great facilities for riding, picnics on the beach, your choice of water activities, or just sitting back to enjoy some dugong-spotting. We haven’t found any yet, but locals have assured us they are here!

Tuesday 17th May 2016

Found an awesome swimming beach today, even I couldn’t help but jump straight in! Woorim Beach on Bribie Island.. soft lapping waves, warm water, a beautiful view of Moreton Island in the distance.. Sensational! We’re setting up camp here at Bribie Island for a couple of days, looking forward to exploring this historic place!

Saturday 14th May 2016

Spending the day in Brisbane catching up with family and friends, always a pleasure to spend time in this lovely Australian city!

Friday 13th May 2016

Island Adventure Day! Took the ferry over to North Stradbroke Island for the day. What a beautiful part of the world. We took the bus around to Point Lookout, for some whale and turtle watching, a swim, and some sensational scenery.

Matt: Can't believe we were right there when that whale went past. So lucky!

Thursday 12th May 2016

We’re in Queensland! We met a couple this morning who stopped to tell us they had a CUB Camper years ago, and were asking about ours. They had to sell theirs and swap over to a caravan BECAUSE THEY’RE IN THEIR 80’s, and the extra work of a trailer interfered with enjoying their continuing travels! What an inspiration to chat to people like that. They’ve given us some great tips for our own trip, so we’re pretty excited!

Matt got in a swim at Surfers Paradise this afternoon.. The water is getting warmer the further north we go!

Matt: A swim followed by a buffet dinner 🙂

Wednesday 11th May 2016

What a huge challenge today! We hiked the Summit Walk to the very top of Mount Warning! The ‘warning’ about the rope chain climb to the top didn’t prepare me for pulling myself up vertically with the chain! I used some muscles that haven’t been worked in quite awhile, we’re going to feel that for the next few days. Having said that, so worth the effort, what a sensational view, plus the climb down the chain rope was heaps of fun!

Matt: Awesome fun!

Had a quick stop in at Byron Bay today, regardless of the increase in tourists, paid parking and fancy lattes, it remains such a great place! Byron has a great little funky hippy feel, despite the chic modern update, so worth a visit. Tonight we’re at another showground, this time in Murwillumbah. Within walking distance of the centre of town, power and a hot shower, for only $20.. What more do you need!

Matt: Byron Bay is hat city!

Sunday 8th May 2016

Happy Mother's Day to all the mum's out there in Australia!! We are in Maclean tonight, staying at the Showground. Spent the afternoon in Yamba on the beach as the sun set. Beautiful little seaside village. What a warm day / evening.

Saturday 7th May 2016

Moonee Beach today, this is a very popular place and not surprising. It is a fantastic walk / wade across the large sandy lagoon to the beach. Lucky enough to spot a pod of dolphins while admiring the view on the headland.

Matt: My head is still spinning from rolling down that hill..

Friday 6th May 2016

Port Macquarie is a perfect little seaside city for a stopover. Pine tree lined beaches, so many restuarants, a wide selection of accommodation and a relaxed holiday atmosphere. Stopped in to Sea Acres Rainforest Walk which was fantastic. On the way to Hat Head National Park, we stopped in at Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberries...we cab highly recommend the gold medal winning strawberry jam!!

Thursday 5th May 2016

We've been exploring Crowdy Bay National Park. You can read more about this special place in coming weeks.

A little further up the coast of New South Wales. This time we're spending a couple of days at Diamond Head in Crowdy Bay National Park, a beautiful quiet spot with plenty of wildlife.

Sunday 1st May 2016

On our way up the coast to Queensland now! Stopping for a few nights at Wallamba River Holiday Park to enjoy Foster / Tuncurry.
